Webinar about Food Donation in Crisis Situations

As part of the project “Capacity Building for the European Green Deal according to the Measures of the Local Community”, a webinar “Food Donation in Crisis Situations” was held on February 14, 2023, in Zoom.

 

The webinar was organized for civil society organizations, especially charity organizations and associations for consumer and environmental protection, and active citizens. The webinar was organized by the project beneficiary, Food Waste Prevention Centre – FWAPC (CEPOH), and project partners Centre for Consumer Education and Information, and Croatia Red Cross – City Red Cross Society Osijek. Experts from the Croatian Agency for Agriculture and Food (HAPIH) also participated.

 

The participants of the webinar were informed about food waste problems, the donation system, aspects of food safety during donation, and the importance of proper donation in crisis situations. The organizers also highlighted the important instructions that citizens should have in mind when donating food. A manual for food donation in crisis situations, created within the project, was distributed to all the participants.

 

The webinar gathered around 40 participants, mainly from organizations involved in food collection and distribution to end-users. After the introductory presentation of the president of the Food Waste Prevention Centre – FWAPC (CEPOH), Branka Ilakovac, under the topic “Food Waste Problems in the Republic of Croatia and the Food Donation System in Crisis Situations”, the president of the Centre for Consumer Education and Information, Tanja Popović Filipović moderated the debate among participants that highlighted the importance of networking between stakeholders in the field of food donation. They also praised the manual about food donation in crisis situations as a valuable tool in everyday situations. It was concluded that the webinar additionally strengthened their capacities in the field of food donation and work in their organizations.
